Race equality week

Race Equality Week is an annual UK-wide movement that brings together hundreds of thousands of organisations and individuals to address the systemic barriers to race equality in the workplace. Taking place from February 3rd to 9th in 2025, it serves as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue, action, and change, encouraging all sectors to take ownership of racial equality as a shared responsibility. By fostering collaboration, raising awareness, and driving initiatives, Race Equality Week empowers participants to take steps—both large and small—that contribute to dismantling racial inequities.

The purpose of Race Equality Week is to challenge the status quo and inspire organizations and individuals to move beyond words and pledges, turning their focus toward tangible actions that create lasting impact. It aims to build accountability at all levels, ensuring that efforts to address racial inequality are not just performative but lead to measurable outcomes. This initiative underscores that achieving racial equality is a collective effort, requiring commitment from leaders, employees, and allies alike.

The 2025 theme, #EveryActionCounts, was chosen to emphasize the urgent need for action. It reflects feedback from the Race Equality Matters community, highlighting the gap between intentions and impact. While many organisations express a commitment to racial equality, only a fraction are implementing actions that drive real change. The theme builds on previous years’ messages, such as “It’s Everyone’s Business” in 2023 and “Listen, Act, Change” in 2024, urging individuals and organisations to take practical steps toward equality rather than remaining in a cycle of discussion and inaction.

#EveryActionCounts serves as a rallying cry for everyone—regardless of their role or position within an organisation—to contribute to the fight for racial equality. Each action, no matter how small, has the potential to spark change. By collectively committing to this ethos, the movement seeks to create a ripple effect that accelerates progress and ensures racial equality becomes a tangible reality in workplaces across the UK.

Race Equality Week is free for organisations to join, providing an accessible opportunity to take meaningful action for racial equality. Participants can design their own activities or use tools and resources co-created with individuals with lived experience of racial inequality. These resources support impactful strategies and lasting change.

The 2025 5-Day Challenge reflects the theme #EveryActionCounts, encouraging daily actions toward racial equality. Race Equality Matters also offers digital assets to help organisations showcase their commitment and boost engagement.

Race Equality Week inspires organisations to move beyond talk and take concrete steps. By participating, businesses and individuals join a collective movement driving workplace racial equality.
