KIngs Heath Unites Against Brutal Racist Attack

Following the brutal racist and islamphobic attack on a 73 year old worshipper on 29th March the community respond in solidarity by staging the Kings Health United Against Racism Weekender 12 - 14 May 2023.

On Wednesday 29 March, a 73-year-old man was brutally attacked and subjected to Islamophobic abuse while walking along York Rd, Kings Heath on his way home from a local mosque after Ramadan prayers. His head was smashed against a display board and he was rushed to hospital with cuts to his face and a broken hand.

Two youths have been arrested and on bail, there were 16 year old, this happened in the wake of the attack on Dudley Road and the week before in London.

Local residents, anti-racist campaigns and venues owners have come together with the support of the family to organise the Kings Heath United Against Racism Weekender to highlight the incident, raise awareness and bring people together to ensure racism and islamophobia don't go unchallenged and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of King Heath and the wider city.

The program will include live music, DJ’s spoken word, information stalls and discussions. The brilliant Kings Heath music venues Hare and Hounds and Kitchen Garden Café were involved from the start and will be hosting events as part of the weekender as will Fletchers Bar, The Juke and The Station.
