BRIG Café Update
Greetings from the team at BRIG café,
We wanted to provide everyone with an update from the BRIG café. As you will be aware, our charity set up a café which opened 6 months ago in October 2024. What a journey it has been so far.
Let us start by thanking everyone who has visited us in the café since we opened and those who have booked our space for various meetings, events and special occasions. I also want to thank the Warehouse and The Friends of the Earth staff in particular for all their support, advice and guidance. We really appreciate the support to date and we hope to see many more friends and supporters of BRIG in the near future in our café.
Our café is a vibrant and safe space for conversations, a great space to come and work from and an excellent and interesting space for meetings and events. You can even have your exhibition on our walls making the BRIG cafe a space for artists to showcase their work. I also want to thank those who have spread the word of the café and those who have booked repeatedly and encouraged others to do the same. We also encourage you to come and try our food which is constantly evolving with new food items on the menu and a range of delicious baked goods.
We have held all kind of events in the space over the last 6 months ranging from our Seeking the Pioneers exhibition in October through to regular book events for Voce Books alongside pop-up kitchens with I Heart Food (follow their social media for upcoming pop-ups). We also host the University of Birmingham Stuart Hall Archive Project seminar series monthly, along with events involving all the universities in the city.
We also run the Race History Detectives Accredited trainingprogramme fortnightly on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8, a great programme aimed to highlight the history of anti-racism in Birmingham, the roots of racism, the influence of racism on music and vice versa whilst helping to grow people’s activism and teaching our Detectives interview skills, editing and transcribing skills and how to do Podcasts. It is one to watch out for!
We have held comedy nights, musical gigs, Poetry nights, Sip and Paint events, arts and crafts events, training sessions and birthday parties and we are a new addition to the Digbeth First Friday’s events. We also hold regular meetings by activist groups spanning politics, environmental activism and public meetings to stand up and fight back against all forms of discrimination. We are also proud to host The Active Wellbeing Society who do an amazing job with supplying hot meals for those who come from deprived or disadvantaged areas across the city.
We hope to see many of you in the BRIG café in the near future.
We are open Tuesday - Friday, 9AM - 4PM.
Yours,
Haji, Ibrar and Sim
